Medical Issue #1

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Initially I wanted to share about this at facebook.
Written almost half of it, but then I cut all these sentences and paste it here. With a hope that I can easily find this piece of mine years later when something happened regarding this issue. Well, I just got back from Pusat Rawatan Islam Az-Zahrah, which has a very good Islamic environment. The toilet is clean(the first place to check the cleanliness of that place), the nurses' uniform is kind of a Muslimah outfit (which is sejuk-mata-memandang-takde-ketat-ketat bagai), the nurses are all with sweet smiles and kind voices, and the Medical Checkup fees including Urine test and X-Ray is only 79.60 MYR (at least RM 20 cheaper than few private hosp/clinics I've asked before). So yeah, highly recommended.

Okay lemme straight to the point.

Alhamdulillah. Settled my medical checkup.

The interesting part of my Jumaat is when I met Dr.Azmah, graduated from UM, there. Been checked by her and I, too, been lectured or adviced about the career of doctors in the future.

Hmm idk how to begin this.
As how nursing students have started to be unemployed and most of them are in the waiting list, before they get to start their job, since last year, medical students TOO might have the same problem later on, predicted to be in 2014. Faham tak nih? Aku baru digegarkan dengan berita yang ada ada antara bakal-bakal doktor yang graduate nanti akan menganggur.

Because of too many approvals from govern for IPTS and IPTA's graduates in medical field, plus the number of doctors will be increasing years by years, there'll be not enough place(hospital) for the soon-to-graduate housemen. So some of us will have to wait in order to get to do the Housemanship.

'HAVE TO WAIT', 'WAITING LIST', 'QUEUE', 'UNEMPLOY'. Biar betul kan. Ingatkan semua graduated medical students terus dapat tempat kerja. Hahahah scary isnt? Kalau korang in my place, listening to Dr Azmah yourself, with her expressions and tone semua, lagi scary ok! Fuhh

So how do we, the future doctors, can train ourselves during the waiting time or shall I say during our unemployment before start working as a real doctor? Because we must have our training, yes? That's what is Housemanship for. Takkan keluar graduate jeh terus boleh kerja kan. Mestilah nak kena train. Doktor pulak tuh. So if we dont get a place to do our Housemanship we musnt just sit back and wait until our turn, "Do something for your own benefits".

Hearing her statement of "Many of student kita yang grad nanti, akan menganggur!" at first, I was like not believing and said "Yeeeee keeee~?" But then when she seriously look at me and said "No joke." I think I had goosebumps quite a moment.

Why? Because weehhhhhhh, siapa nak jadi medical students yang graduate but kena menganggur sekejap because kena tunggu turn buat Housemenship! Hmm *angkat kening sebelah*

Tuu laaah, many IPTS these days and maybe in future, too, want to have medical course in their college, and even Dr Azmah herself said that many youngster nowadays want to do Medicine so memang akan ramaaaaaaaaai lagih lah batch Medical students yang akan graduate but hospital untuk train future doctors ni tak cukup. In the end, we have to queue in order to do training and become a real doctor.

So, she asked me to prepare for above scenario. She said she didnt tell me about this matter to 'takut-takutkan' but to lemme and my friends know what is maybe going to happen soon. Even kakak Nurse kat sebelah pun terangguk-angguk and agreed much because the scenario of umemployment of Nursing students had happened pun.

Then I asked her 'Macam mana nak prepare tu? Apa yang doktor maksudkan dengan prepare to do something in the mean time kot kot kalau I'm the one that have to wait for my place to do Housemen?'

She replied,
"I mean you must have Plan A and Plan B. Do another job in the mean time, macam kerja kat Pharmacy, jual ubat-ubat, get to know about medicines and all. Kot lah with having experiences working in a medical line before, ada atasan yang akan give your place."

Hmm, this part I dont understand sangat, nak buat housemanship kena apply eh? I thought that will be settled by pihak universities. They should have booked places in hospital earlier for their students lah kan. But about Plan A and Plan B, i think i've started to worried because I, seriously, dont have any plan B for my career, yet. T_______T Because I just wanted to become a doctor. Or maybe I should start serious in Photography? Huh.

For Pharmacy and Dentistry, kurang sikit kata Dr Azmah. Kurang lah maksudnya issue untuk tidak ada tempat training or too many of you guys. Lucky korang. Hm. Rasa macam nak tukar course Dentist pulak. Hahaha

K.
I found something regarding this issue in a blog,

Prof Anuar has quoted very well that we will be having surplus of doctors and most of the medical schools are not producing doctors of good quality. It is very clear that MMC’s hands are tied! He has also commented on the attitude of the current generation of doctors who wants office hour job and are not keen to really care for the patients. The shift system is just a knee jerk reaction from MOH to reduce the “surplus” scenario on public’s eye.

Then came another speech from our Ex-DG, Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican during the MMA AGM in May 2012. His speech, even though is long, does tell us the current scenario that the medical fraternity is facing in Malaysia. In fact, his title ”Medicine at the crossroads: The Malaysian Dilemma” is well worded and appropriate. You can view his speech herehttps://dl.dropbox.com/u/55059024/Ex-DG%20speech.pdf According to him, we are already having surplus of doctors as we do not have enough training hospitals and trainers. He has also commented on the attitude of the current generation of doctors and parents who interfere and pamper their “grown-up” kids! A well written speech, I must say.

In his another post,

The “Foot in the Mouth syndrome” that is happening for the nurses now, will soon hit the medical field. Then our great minister will say ” we need specialist but the medical colleges are only producing general training doctors. That’s why we have surplus of doctors!!” WTH.

Blog Dr. Pagalavan ni, keep updating about current issues regarding medical field. Ni pun, Dr. Azmah yang suggestkan untuk baca.

I had enough lecture and motivation from her today.
"Takot nanti ada yang jadi doktor terhormat jeh."
"Ahh? Maksudnya?"
"Ye lahh, duduk kat rumah jeh, tapi dapat title D.R."
"Ohhh."

Dia suruh prepare okay. Jangan terkejut nanti.
Lastly, she left me with a spiritual wish, "All the best!" and seriously tell me this, "Be Prepared." And she even make me terasa sangat when she said "Come one laaaaaah medical students, takkan tak tahu berita semasa? Jangan belajar jeh. You have to read newspaper and all!" Perghhhhhhhhh. Rasa macam nak jeh bitau dia, "I baru jeh tell my best friend and tweet that I want to make a habit reading newspaper and boost up my general knowledge, Dr. Dont worry." Hahahaha

Memang serious kena berubah neh, Aimi woi! Fuh fuh. Insyaallah, will try my best okeh.

Last but not least, Idk how to end this post, but yeah, let's, the future doctors, do our best to become a great quality doctor. Idk what will happen to our future by the time we graduates from med school, Idk if me and my batch will really have a queue list to do our Housemanship or we'll have to be housemen in a group of 10 or 20, Idk whether I'll get a place to do my work at any hosp or else, but let us be a shining one, so that our seniors, MO, specialists can see at our sincerity and seriousness in becoming a good doctor for Ummah. Been trained successfully and work to pleased Allah.

Ini untuk #TeamSarkastik&PsikotikPpl yang mungkin akan fikir negative. Well I know I'm not yet a medical student pun, baru jeh nak masuk tahun satu this Sept, chillax jeh lah kan. Kecoh sangat pulak. Bak kata my sis, "Budak baru nak up", masa aku excited boleh buat banyak masakan sekarang. Haha. Tapi aku sajeh jeh nak share benda ni. Benda baik. Supaya kita prepare about what will happen in our future. Dr Azmah yang share dgn aku, so takkan aku nak tahu sensorang jeh :) K.

Enough said.
Ignore the grammars and the synchronization of my sentences. Honestly, I preferred to write in Malay, baru sampai dalam hati korang kot.
I should start packing now.
Going to Al-Munirah again.
Bai.

Stay blessed,
Salaam Jumaat,
{DR.Aimisya}
